Tal-Y-Bont Reservoir

Tal‑y‑Bont reservoir sits just over the next valley over from us — close enough that the same weather rolling across our fields settles on its water a few minutes later. It’s always worth the wander. The place has a quiet soul: the kind that comes from being held between long, steady hills, with the forestry rising dark on one side and the open slopes lifting on the other.

On calm days the surface goes still enough to mirror the whole sky; on rough days it chops and flashes like it’s trying to run with the wind. You’ll often see a heron lifting off the shallows, or a kite circling the edge of the pines. In spring the air is soft with blossom drifting down the valley, and the cuckoo carries clean across the water.

It’s one of those spots that feels both tucked away and wide open — a place that keeps its own company, but welcomes yours.
